Because better browsers are better.
Firefox 3 is out!

They're going for a world record for number of downloads or something. I've downloaded it, but I haven't installed it yet. Just thought I'd promote it shamelessly. :)

Sims: Bachelorette Challenge
Ok, I uploaded my Sims Bachelorette story challenge. I would like to add that I have never watched any version of the tv show, so I don't really know how it works. I just (mostly) followed the challenge rules on the website I found them on because it sounded like fun.

There's even a shocking twist in the middle. Drama! Jealousy!

I did a second "season" also, with a new girl and all the non-winning guys, but it hasn't been put together in story form yet. I'm not sure if I will or not, I'll have to see what pictures I took.

I just had to share, since it's the only challenge I've finished so far.

The magic expanding mailbox.
So... Gmail has this constantly increasing storage space ticker showing how much space they give you. It's up to 2846 MB currently. And two of my accounts show that. The one I use most says "You are currently using 97 MB (3%) of your 2846 MB." All well and good.

But I just logged into one of my others (that I obviously rarely use) and it says this:

Hmmmm. Error? Sign of a pending change? Random weirdness? No idea, but that is a LOT more space. Just thought it was interesting. I logged out and back in to make sure (and take the screen cap) and it was still there.

Dear icon makers of the world,

If you have made 120 graphics, and exactly THREE of those are at all related to the fandom of the community in which you are advertising, PUT THE THREE STUPID ICONS IN THE POST instead of making us load your ENTIRE portfolio of stuff we really don't care about. Seriously. Good grief.

Wee!
Can I just say how AWESOME it is to play Sims with a good computer?!? The graphics options are not set to the lowest possible, and it's a heckuva lot smoother at everything, and it isn't sputtering all over the place like this one does. I love this game all over again.

If you need me, you know where I'll be. (Need to transfer my custom neighborhood over from this computer.) ... (And the mouse, but no room yet.)

So a little over a year later, I finally posted my Cosmo mood theme, and I have no idea if those codes are right. But yay?

Useless rant.
LJ really needs to add either an option to turn the navigation strip off permanently, on all pages, or take off the option that lets other people/communities force it on me. If I can 'always see' it, why can't I 'always not see' it? There's a big user-friendly flaw there.

Didn't we win the VCR war already?
This is corny, but unfortunately, it's true. It's crazy how fair use (you know, like being able to rip a cd to your computer so you can listen to it? Not to share it, as that's another story.) is under attack and despite it being completely legal, it's becoming harder to do because of DRM. And I agree with something I've read: it really stands for Digital Restrictions Management, as the software does absolutely nothing for "Rights" except take them away. Just spreading the word on a geek cause.

Since I was tagged... 7 songs.
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your livejournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

Answers & babble )

And I never tag, because I don't really have that many people on my friends list. So copy if you want. :-)

LJ source code is scary.
This LJ layout I switched to seems to have the problem that if a bold tag doesn't get closed properly, it not only bolds the rest of the entry, but the rest of the entire page. That's kind of annoying.

Perhaps another advantage of tables over div piles? (Yes, I know tables aren't "proper" or whatever. But they're practical.) I'm actually not sure what component is made from, but I don't think it had that problem.

This game review brought to you by...
After the disappointment that was Tetris Worlds, I am happy to say that Tetris DS is actually really fun. I can play online! With other people! Except I keep winning. I only lost once, and that was mostly because I felt bad for winning three times in a row and kind of backed off a little. And the new Touch Tetris is a pretty neat variation. I haven't tried Mission yet, and I don't really get the Catch one at all. But overall, good game so far.

If anyone else gets it, you can make a friends list and play against those people. Like me. :-)

Who can resist pointless music lists?
Why not? I had to skip a lot to not repeat artists though. With those taken out, WMP is mostly in a low-rated song mood.

Can I borrow a quarter?
A request for anyone, but especially Robin or anyone else who lives farther west than I do:

Dad's collecting all the state quarters, but he's collecting them both from the two different mints. So we need two of each state, one with a little D on the front and one with a little P on the front. The P's (Philadelphia) are usually easy, most of the money in this area comes from there. The D's (Denver? I think) are harder to find.

We're missing D's from Texas, Minnesota, Kansas, and West Virginia right now. Texas especially is an older one that we've never gotten. The letters are on the right under "In God We Trust". Anyone have one in their pocket and would be willing to send it? I could send a few back as thanks. :-)

Windows Exploit Warning
Just a word of caution...
If any of you use IE you may NOT want to visit nsyncline.com. There's a nasty new exploit you may or may not have heard about, in WMF files. In IE they are automatically opened and spyware/adware/etc. can be installed on your machine, just by going to a site (or viewing an email) with one of the files. Firefox (the recent versions) & Opera (maybe? conflicting reports) will prompt you if you want to download it. There's no patch out yet, except to disable the dll completely.

I was checking my Lnu links, and that site popped up a box asking me if I wanted to download a .wmf file, from another domain. I declined & cleared my cache. I'm not sure how it got infected, but just be extra careful, cause if it's on there, it could be anywhere.

*paranoid*

You can turn off the dll by going to Start -> Run and entering:
regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll
I wasn't going to go that far, but that freaked me out, so I did, and it did disable the sidebar image previews in windows explorer. But I don't really care about that so much if my computer will stay uninfected. :-)

I'm sure you all care.
I finally got my hair cut! About five inches from the back, and then got layered on the sides and a little in the back. It blends in more with my bangs now that I've been letting grow out so maybe I can actually wear my hair down sometimes instead of wearing it pulled back on top every day of my life. Novel idea. Of course the stylist curled it up and everything so it looked really good, which I'll never do cause I'm lazy. So I like it a lot now, and we'll see if lasts.

And now I have to edit fanbase somehow to stop all the annoying gibberish spams that keep coming through the update forms.
